ACORN Scholarships
ACORN supports its members and perioperative nursing by offering financial support for professional development and acknowledging outstanding contributions to perioperative nursing and the perioperative profession.
ACORN financial assistance through grants and scholarships is intended to support the learning of its members and assist perioperative nurses to:
- develop higher level skills related to the practice of perioperative nursing
- carry out projects that will enhance perioperative nursing competence.
ACORN offers six types of financial assistance to support member’s learning. ACORN also offers Research Grants for perioperative research.

RESEARCH GRANT
ACORN is committed to encouraging and supporting research into perioperative nursing practice. Through research perioperative nurses can adopt best practice based on current evidence. ACORN understands that research takes time, commitment and funds and so we offer an annual research grant of up to $20 000.
If you are a master’s or doctorate research student, a member of a research team or a beginning researcher you are eligible to apply for the ACORN Research grant. Applications for the 2018 Research grant close on 31 January 2018. The application form will be available to download from this page from the end of August.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS
The ACORN financial assistance grants are intended to support the learning of perioperative nursing members. Their purpose is to assist nurses to
- develop higher level skills related to the practice of perioperative nursing
- carry out projects that will enhance perioperative nursing competence
- attend national and international conferences.
The ACORN International volunteer and teaching grant also assists nurses to engage in charitable work, such as volunteering to work with aid groups.
BRAVURA LASER SAFETY OFFICER (LSO) EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
Bravura is offering a scholarship for one ACORN member from each state to complete a course in basic laser safety training (surgical and operating suite).

CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE SCHOLARSHIP
ACORN endeavours to support its members and is therefore offering scholarships to cover the cost of registration to the upcoming ACORN conference. Through these scholarships perioperative nurses are given the chance to attend the conference in Sydney in May 2020.

INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER AND TEACHING GRANT
ACORN wishes to support its members and the broader perioperative community, by offering financial support for members who are intending to do voluntary work or teach perioperative nursing skills overseas.
If you are an ACORN member who intends to travel overseas to do voluntary work or teach you may be eligible to apply for the ACORN International volunteer and teaching grant to assist with travel costs. Every year ACORN offers two of these grants of $2500 each.

UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA AND ACORN PARTNERSHIP
The University of Tasmania and the Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN) have partnered to offer postgraduate nursing courses on a scholarship basis to ACORN members.
The Victorian Perioperative Nurses Group acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the traditional owners of the land and acknowledges and pays respects to the Elders past, present and emerging.
